Mbappe punished Sebastian Hoeness’ men just after the interlude, firing home from close range after being played through by Rodrygo seconds into the half.

The German outfit hit back through Deniz Undav in minute 68, but Antonio Rudiger and Endrick had the final laugh with goals in the 83rd and 95th minutes to notch three points at Santiago Bernabeu.

Mbappe closes in on Henry

Mbappe’s first Champions League goal in Los Blancos colours was the Frenchman’s 49th in the competition, taking him level with Alfredo Di Stefano after moving one clear of Andriy Shevchenko and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Six of Mbappe’s goals came at Monaco and he hit a further 42 for Paris Saint-Germain before adding on against Stuttgart to take him one shy of countryman Thierry Henry.

The former Arsenal striker scored 50 times in Europe’s premier club competition, notching seven for Monaco, 35 for the Gunners and eight at Barcelona.

Mbappe needs one strike to match the retired forward and two to supplant the eighth-placed player in the tournament’s all-time goalscorers list.
