Okpebholo declares new dawn for Edo people after meeting Tinubu, Okpebholo made the remarks, while briefing State House correspondents, after presenting his certificate of return to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

He promised to work with the opposition if they had good ideas: “I think Edo people have spoken with their votes. For me, I’m coming as a servant to serve the Edo people.

“That is what is required of me, and that is exactly what I am going to do. So, very soon we will see a lot of developments coming to Edo.

“We are going to employ teachers, we are going to integrate our schools, a lot will be happening over time.”

He promised to run an open-door administration and urged those who lost to bear the loss.

“If I had lost, I would have to bear it and I would have by now congratulated the winner. So, I’m expecting them to congratulate me,“ he said.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who accompanied the governor-elect, said God made Okpebholo’s victory possible.

“God confers power. Man can make all the efforts but if God chooses not to crown it, it will be in vain.

“I am excited that we have reclaimed a new state almost in the same manner that we reclaimed it from PDP in 2007 before Obaseki took it away from us.

“My joy is the fact that Edo people will now have a governor that they can hug, they can touch, they can feel. And a governor that will open the doors,” he said.

According to Oshiomhole, the governor-elect is at home with the ordinary people and understands the challenges of the rural poor.

“So, they are all excited now that they are back again with a governor that they can say, this is my governor.

“Incidentally, his name translated in English means the rescuer. And so God has brought him to rescue the Edo people, to restore integrity, to rebuild our schools, to employ teachers so that parents don’t need to contribute money to pay teachers.

“Edo people cannot wait to see a new approach to governance; government of the people, by the people, and for Edo people,” said Oshiomhole.

He appealed to those who lost the governorship contest to accept it in good faith: “That you have lost doesn’t mean it’s all over for you.

“You can’t win until the time that God has appointed. So my advice to them is to accept the result,” he said.

VIDEO: Echoes of 2027 – There have been echoes…

There have been echoes of a possible reunion between former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party 2023 presidential flag-bearer, Peter Obi after the former hosted the latter to a breakfast at his country home in Adamawa State.

In a video posted on his X on Saturday, November 30, 2024, Atiku welcomed Obi to his palatial residence and introduced the former Anambra State Governor to one of his sons.

The two exchanged warm handshakes and cracked jokes in the presence of a handful of aides and domestic staff before heading for the dining.

Obia was accompanied by his former spokesman and the current Interim National Coordinator of his Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko and a few other aides.

“It is breakfast time with my friend, @PeterObi, in the “land of beauty.” -AA, Atiku captioned the video.

The former Anambra Governor is billed to deliver a convocation lecture at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa’s capital, on Saturday.

The institution, which clocks 20 and marks its 16th Founder’s Day, was founded by Atiku.

Echoes of the 2027 reunion ring loud

Meanwhile, the video has sparked fresh speculations of a possible realignment between the two political heavyweights ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Atiku brought Obi to national prominence after featuring him as running mate on his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2019. However, the duo parted ways in 2023, a move analysts say caused mutual destruction to each others’ ambition.

Obi and Atiku contested against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a three-horse presidential race, which was eventually won by the latter.

There have been reported underground moves by camps of the two politicians to strike an agreement that will lead to an alliance to unseat Tinubu in the next general election.

This is the second time Obi and Atiku have met since the alliance talks began, as they both contend with internal crises in their respective parties.

Okocha takes over leadership – The Rivers State Chapter…

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Chief Tony Okocha, its former Caretaker Committee Chairman, as the substantive Chairman.

Okocha was elected at the party’s Delegates’ Congress held on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

He was elected alongside other State Working Committee members to run the affairs of the party for four years.

The congress, which was conducted through a voice vote, was presided over by Dr Adoye Omale, who represented the party’s National Secretariat.

It was supervised by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers, Dr Joseph Alalibo.

In a speech, the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Victor Giadom, commended the delegates for their peaceful conduct.

Giadom said that the peaceful conduct of the congress demonstrated that Rivers APC “is united and indivisible”.

He called on the members to support the new executive to move the party forward.

In an acceptance speech, Okocha said that the congress had proved that APC is united and peaceful.

He said that with the mandate given to him and other executive members, the party would take over governance in Rivers in 2027.

He said: “I’m sure you are seeing the indices and the variables already.

“Those who said APC cannot conduct elections lied.

“APC will conduct and win elections and be in charge of government in Rivers.

“Our business with you supporting us is to ensure that we root out a rudderless government in Rivers.

“By 2027, God keeping us alive, we will have an election in Rivers and our target with you is to help us so that APC takes the reign of governance.

“From the State and National Assembly, Local Government Areas and Governorship elections, APC will win in Rivers and also ensure that we return the hero of our time, President Bola Tinubu.

“Let me again use this opportunity to say to Nigerians that we are on course.

“APC is on course in Nigeria. I’m sure you have watched or you have heard what happened at the Port Harcourt Refinery some days ago.

“So, this is the tip of the iceberg that you will begin to see,” Okocha said.

Other positions filled during the congress were the Deputy Chairman, State Secretary, Publicity Secretary, State Auditor, State Women Leader, Youth Leader, Legal Adviser and Zonal Leaders for the three senatorial districts of Rivers.

2026 is our turn to produce governor in Osun after 33 years – Osogbo leaders

2026 is our turn – 2026 is our turn…

2026 is our turn – Dr Yemi Oladimeji, a…

Dr Yemi Oladimeji, a leader of Osogbo Progressive Union (OPU), Osogbo in Osun, has decried the inability of the town to produce a governor since the creation of the state 33 years ago.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that OPU is the umbrella body of all Osogbo indigenous groups.

Oladimeji, in a statement on Sunday in Osogbo, said that the attitude of “pull him down syndrome” by some indigenes of Osogbo was responsible for the inability of the town to produce a governor.

He charged the indigenes of Osogbo to work together and as a team to produce the next governor of the state in the 2026 election for the development of the town and the state.

Oladimeji noted that Osogbo parades quality, qualified, competent and very sound political leaders, urging all indigenes of Osogbo in various political parties to work for the interest of the town ahead of the next gubernatorial election.

He noted that prominent indigenes of the town had several opportunities in the past to become the governor of the state but such opportunities were deterred by some people.

“In the last 33 years that Osun State was created by the military administration of retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Ede in Osun West has produced the governor twice through late Sen. Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke (1992/1993), and his younger brother, who is the incumbent, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, from 2022 till date.

”Also, Osun Central has produced the governor thrice through Chief Abdulkareem Adebisi Akande from Ila-Orangun (1999-2003), Okuku through Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (2003-2010) and Iragbiji through Alhaji Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola, 2018-2022.

“Ilesa in Osun East produced the governor through Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola (2010-2018).

“Our great leader and my big uncle, Sen. Olu Alabi, from Osogbo had a good chance to become the governor of Osun State when he came out to run for the exalted office in 1999 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“He fought tooth and nail to emerge the PDP governorship candidate but lost to Chief Bisi Akande of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) because some of our people in Osogbo worked against him.

“The history repeated itself in my own case too when I ran the primary for the Osun State governorship under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 2007.

”I am bringing up this issue not because of my own interest but for us to learn from history and begin to make an amend so that we don’t fall into the same booby-trap when such an opportunity for Osogbo comes up again,” he said.

According to him, there is a lot to gain by working together to advance the course and interest of Osogbo.

Oladimeji, who is a member of the United States chapter of OPU, urged Osogbo indigenes in the diaspora to always work towards the development of the town and be willing to assist the less privileged.

“We should also love one another and support whoever God wants to use to represent Osogbo politically.

”I am now appealing to all of us to rally support for the development of Osogbo and Osun State.

”Let us show commitment to this course and make it a collective responsibility,” he said.
