Having multiple girlfriends with constant sex won't prevent prostate cancer

Having multiple girlfriends with – The urologist noted that…
The urologist noted that the disease is either hereditary or caused by lifestyle or environment.
Dr Odezi Otobo, a Consultant Urologist says there is no medical or urological evidence that constant sexual intercourse and ejaculation reduce a man’s risk of contracting prostate cancer.
Otobo, who works with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), said this at a medical outreach for men organised by Asi Ukpo Comprehensive Cancer Centre on Monday in Calabar.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach which was held at the premises of the Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI), Calabar, is part of programmes to commemorate “Movember.”
Movember, which involves growing of moustaches, is an annual event held in November to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health.
The urologist who was reacting to claims on social media that constant sexual activities and having multiple girlfriends could prevent prostate cancer, said the disease was either hereditary, caused by lifestyle or environment.
“Instead of taking unprofessional and unscientific advice from different quarters, it is important to visit a hospital if you notice anything and for those in their forties and fifties, get screened because early detection is key to effective treatment of cancer.
“Prostate cancer is an indolent cancer and can be handled when a man is aware, visit a medical facility and change his lifestyle, not by having multiple ‘side chicks,” he said.

On his part, Yegwa Ukpo, the Executive Director, Asi Ukpo Comprehensive Cancer Centre, said they had to commemorate Movember because men’s health issues were hardly addressed in the society.
Represented by Mercy Njoku, Event and Outreach Manager of the centre, Ukpo said there was something about masculinity in the society that made men thought they had to keep their issues to themselves.
“I want to appeal to the men to take their health seriously because cases of men slumping and dying in their forties and fifties are on the increase, we don’t want this to continue.
“Also, a lot of men engage in excessive intake of alcohol, others work all the time just to make ends meet without checking their livers, kidneys, hearts and even mental state, this is why we are insisting on this outreach which will be annually,” he added.
Similarly, Dr Saviour Eze, Head of Medical Team in CCCI said that they decided to partner with ASI Ukpo because the outreach specifically called out men to be attended to which was quite unusual in the society.
Eze said as a church, they recognised the fact that physical illnesses should be handled by those God had placed in the Medical profession to take care, even though they pray for God’s healing.
NAN also reports that the outreach which saw men screened for the function of their hearts, kidneys, livers and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) was in partnership with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rotary Club and Pink Africa among others.

TRENDING: Hausa singer Rarara calls Tinubu 'Omo Ologo' in new track

Kano-based political singer, Dauda Adamu Kahutu, popularly known as Rarara, has delivered a thrilling live performance, serenading President Bola Tinubu with a dedicated track titled ‘Omo Ologo,’ a Yoruba phrase meaning a glorious child.
Rarara performed at a banquet organised by Katsina Governor Dikko Umar Radda in honour of President Tinubu, who arrived in the North-West state on Friday, May 2, 2025, for a two-day working visit.
Katsina is the home of the immediate former President, Muhammadu Buhari, and has been grappling with bandit attacks and kidnapping incidents, which have raised urgent security concerns.
The trip is aimed at addressing rising security threats and launching major development initiatives.

As part of his schedule, the President commissioned a 24km road, which the Governor completed within 18 months. He’s also expected to commission the new Katsina Agricultural Mechanised Centre and attend the wedding of Radda’s daughter before heading back to Abuja.
Meanwhile, in a video that’s going viral online, Rarara was seen serenading Tinubu with his new song at the event, with his ‘Omo Ologo’ appraisal drawing the President’s amusement.
Tinubu, who was visibly thrilled by the singer’s rendition, alongside Governor Radda, clapped and smiled all through the performance.
Rarara is famous in the Northern political circle for his hit tracks during the 2023 electioneering period, during which he endorsed Tinubu’s candidacy.

Recall that the singer once declared that Tinubu should have appointed him as a minister or, at least, made him part of the selection process.
“If I am not given the position of minister, then it should be said that I was called and sat down with me, then those who will be given the positions of ministers were chosen with me,” he said back in 2023.

Drama as Rivers women walk out at Remi Tinubu empowerment programme

A mild drama ensued at the Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme venue in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, as a group of women staged a walkout while the event was ongoing.
The programme, held on Friday, May 2, 2025, was hosted by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in partnership with the office of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
About 500 women were billed to receive empowerment items at the occasion
However, the event suffered a brief disruption when the Wife of the Rivers State Administrator, Theresa Ibas, was invited to deliver a speech.

Rising in protest, a group of aggrieved women staged a walk while chanting, “Bring back Fubara, we don’t know Ibas.”
The protesters demanded the reinstatement of suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, so that his wife, Valerie, could address them. They insisted that the suspended governor’s wife should address them rather than Ibas’s wife.
Though the protesters continued their agitation outside the venue, the programme proceeded unhindered indoors, with the administrator’s wife delivering the speech on behalf of the First Lady.
Tinubu said the scheme has already been completed in the North Central zone, with the Rivers State event marking its conclusion in the South-South region.

“These tools are designed to help our women establish and grow successful businesses, contributing to the nation’s prosperity.
