APC sweeps 21 LG chairmanship, 239 councillorship seats in Kogi

Nda-Eri thanked the electoral officials, security operatives, observers and newsmen for their support that made the election a success.
The All Progressive Congress (APC), has swept the 21 Local Government Chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship slots in Kogi in the election held on Saturday.
Mamman Nda-Eri, Chairman, Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), who announced the results in Lokoja, said the election was peaceful, free, fair and credible.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that among the elected local government chairmen was a woman that clinched the seat in Ogori-Magongo Local Government.
“APC performed excellently; it cleared all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving nothing to the other 18 political parties that took part in the election.
“The results declared at the headquarters were earlier declared at the various collations centres by the respective Returning Officers.
“As Chairman of KOSIEC, I hereby confirm the results earlier collated and returned by the Returning Officers,” he said.
He thanked the electoral officials, security operatives, observers and newsmen for their support that made the election a success.

Peter Obi breaks silence on Labour Party exit rumours

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has dismissed growing speculation that he plans to leave the party.
Speaking during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Obi clarified that he has neither considered nor discussed leaving the LP with anyone.
“I’ve not told anybody that I’m leaving the Labour Party,” the former Anambra State governor stated firmly, addressing party leaders and stakeholders.
The comment comes amid rising political chatter and uncertainty over the future of the Labour Party’s leadership and internal unity.
Obi, however, used the platform to reaffirm his commitment to the party and emphasized the importance of inclusive decision-making.
He noted that any major decisions concerning the direction of the Labour Party would be made through dialogue and consensus among key stakeholders.
“Our decisions must reflect the collective will of the people who believe in this movement,” he said.
Obi’s remarks appeared to aim to calm tensions within the party and dispel concerns among supporters who feared a possible defection ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
A central figure in the LP’s rise to prominence during the 2023 elections, Obi continues to wield considerable influence, particularly among Nigeria’s youth and reform-minded electorate.
His reassurance is seen as a stabilising message for a party still grappling with growing pains and internal disagreements.
As the NEC meeting continues, party members say they are focused on strengthening internal democracy and consolidating gains made in the last general election.

Anambra 2025: Winner emerges in PDP guber primary

Jude Ezenwafor has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
The party’s primary was held on Tuesday, April 8, at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka. Ezenwafor, the sole aspirant, was declared the winner.
Announcing the results, Chijioke Onwubuya, chairman of the state governorship election congress committee, said Ezenwafor secured 798 ‘yes’ votes, while 26 ballots were invalid.
He noted that 853 delegates were accredited out of 999 on the list.
“By the power vested in me and in line with PDP rules, I hereby declare Jude Ezenwafor our candidate,” Onwubuya said, stressing that the process adhered to the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Ezenwafor assured party members of his commitment to returning PDP to power in Anambra.
“If you support me, the dream will come true. They say PDP is dead, but I will prove them wrong. Our journey to Government House has begun,” he declared.
State PDP Chairman Chidi Chidebe described the party as rejuvenated, united, and ready for victory, stating that Anambra regrets rejecting PDP in the past.
“Many who left the party have returned after disappointing experiences elsewhere. PDP remains Nigeria’s most liberal platform that built today’s core governance structures,” Chidebe said.
With Ezenwafor now the party’s flagbearer, the stage is set for a fierce battle in the Anambra governorship election.

‘I’ll never join them’ – Sowore rejects Atiku, Obi’s coalition ahead of 2027 polls

Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the Take-it-Back Movement, has categorically ruled out joining the proposed coalition of former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Politics Today, Sowore dismissed the coalition efforts, linking them to past political alignments that, in his view, worsened Nigeria’s governance.
“I’m not joining any coalition. The coalition they formed in 2013 and 2015 led to the APC. Joining another coalition in 2025 is repeating the same mistake without learning from history,” he said.
Sowore insisted that only an alliance of the oppressed could bring real change.

“The coalition that needs to be built is that of the oppressed. Joining another coalition made up of the same people who created Nigeria’s problems is an injustice and an injury to Nigerians,” he added.
The activist also dismissed speculations about him joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP), stating, “I’m not part of those playing chess with the destiny of Nigerians.”
His remarks come as Atiku, Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai push for a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Atiku, speaking at a press conference of Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders, warned against political interference that could subvert democracy.
Sowore’s rejection of the coalition underscores deep divisions among opposition figures as Nigeria heads toward another heated election cycle.
