Governor Dapo Abiodun Emphasizes Role of Traditional Rulers in Peace, Unity, and Development in Ogun State. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in fostering peace, unity, and socio-economic development in Ogun State and across Nigeria. Speaking through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, the governor addressed the Statutory Meeting of the State Council of Oba, held at the Obas’ Complex in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Governor Abiodun encouraged the state’s traditional rulers to use their unique influence to support government initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. He acknowledged the Council of Oba’s pivotal role in promoting peace, harmony, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
“As our highly revered traditional rulers, you are to please leverage on the council meeting to interact and cross-fertilise ideas necessary for the creation of prosperity for the people,” said Abiodun. “You are to come up with practicable and more improved recommendations necessary for the discharge of good governance in the best interest of every resident of the state.”
In his remarks, the Council Chairman, Olu and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his continued efforts in supporting the traditional council and providing utility vehicles as promised. He also urged the governor to fulfill the remaining vehicle allocations and ratify the recently processed list of Obas awaiting status upgrades.
The meeting also featured the presentation of the “Digiculture” project by Dr. Temitope Olaifa, Associate Professor of International Peace and Security at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. Dr. Olaifa discussed the project’s aim to preserve Ogun State’s cultural heritage through a mobile application, requesting the cooperation of traditional rulers to provide cultural knowledge from their respective regions.
In addition, Brigadier-General Alade Adedigba (Rtd), the new Commandant of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, praised the royal fathers for their efforts in maintaining peace within their communities. He urged their continued collaboration to strengthen grassroots security, in line with Governor Abiodun’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Ogun State residents.
