Ogwumike was named on the second All defensive team with Alyssa Thomas, Alanna Smith, Jonquel Jones, and Natasha Cloud.
This comes after Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier has been named the 2024 Kia WNBA Defensive Player of the Year.
The New York Liberty took a 2-0 lead in the 2024 WNBA Semifinals after defeating the Las Vegas Aces, the reigning WNBA Champions, 88-84.
This season, New York enjoyed a double-digit advantage over Las Vegas in all five of the team’s meetings.
It was the second-largest paint-scoring disparity by any Aces opponent in the last three seasons as the Liberty outscored Las Vegas 44-24 in the paint.
In Game 2, the Liberty Reserves scored 21 points while holding the Aces to 10 bench points, more than double Las Vegas’ scoring output from the bench.
In addition, New York passed Seattle for the longest assist streak in playoff history with at least 15 assists for the 26th straight playoff game.
Game 3 between the Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces is scheduled for Friday, October 4.
Lynx beat Sun
The Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun 77-70 on Tuesday to square the best-of-five WNBA semifinal series at one game apiece, with to 17 points from Courtney Williams and 15 from Alanna Smith while star Napheesa Collier had a bad game.
Collier was limited to nine points on 3-for-14 shooting, a far cry from his 80 points in the two-game victory against Phoenix in the opening round.
With 12 rebounds and five assists, she led the Lynx and was happy to let her supporting group lead the team.
The Sun, who shot just 5 for 20 from 3-point range, had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists from Alyssa Thomas.
Connecticut will host Games 3 and 4 this Friday and Sunday, respectively.
