PDP gov hands over power to deputy, details emerge
PDP gov hands over – Bayelsa State Governor Douye…
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri commenced his annual leave on Monday, November 25, handing over the reins of governance to Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. In a personally signed statement, Diri assured residents that governance would continue seamlessly during his absence. “With effect from today, November 25, 2024, I am proceeding on my annual leave,” he announced. “My absence will not in any way affect governance in the state as the Deputy Governor has the mandate to take charge of all state functions. Additionally, there will be no delays in executing ongoing projects and programmes by ministries, agencies, and departments.” The Governor disclosed that this was his first break since his second-term inauguration in February. On the pressing issue of the prolonged blackout caused by the damaged Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV power line, Diri provided updates on repair efforts. He revealed that restringing of the vandalised line has been completed, with final repairs on towers 29 to 31 underway. “Our intervention in repairing the vandalised towers, though the transmission line is not owned by the state, was purely in the interest of our people,” Diri explained. “The economic hardship caused by the blackout has been immense, particularly for business owners, but I am optimistic that power will be restored soon.” Diri also announced heightened security measures to protect the repair sites, involving both conventional and local security forces. Meanwhile, the state government has initiated plans to develop a gas turbine-powered Independent Power Plant (IPP). “We are committed to ensuring steady electricity supply in the state in line with our ASSURED Prosperity Agenda,” he affirmed. As Diri embarks on his leave, Bayelsa residents await the resolution of the power crisis and the fulfilment of the government’s promise of stable electricity.

VIDEO: TikToker dies on live video after suffering seizure

A Nigerian TikToker identified simply as ‘Disturbing’ has died during a live video stream on the social media platform.
The TikToker who has been involved in the ‘JUSTICE FOR MOHBAD’ movement died at his residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Thursday.
The final moments of the content creator were captured in a video that has now gone viral.
He appeared to suffer what looked like a seizure before passing away in front of the camera during the live stream.
According to netizens who may have been part of the live stream, Disturbing had been cursing individuals linked to the late singer Mohbad’s case, including Mohbad’s mother, widow, his brother Adura, and Liam, during his unfortunate live broadcast.
The content creator’s wife, who was also a popular cobbler and musician within their community, has now provided more details about the unfortunate incident.
Identified simply as Omowunmi, the wife in a TikTok post disclosed that the deceased had hit his head on a stone after he collapsed.
Omowunmi explained that she was in the kitchen cooking his food when neighbours who had spotted him unresponsive on the floor ran to her.
According to her, he was rushed to the hospital, where he was placed on oxygen. Despite all efforts, he passed away on Friday morning.
She narrated, “Yesterday morning, my husband was on TikTok live video while I cooked his food in the kitchen. Suddenly, he had a seizure, fell down, and hit his head on a stone that was in front of him. Blood was coming out of his head.
“A young boy and some neighbours who were passing then saw him. They thought he had fainted, so they started pouring water on him. The young boy ran inside and called me from the kitchen.
“When I got there, I told them to stop pouring water and that it was a seizure. We quickly rushed him to the hospital, where they placed him on oxygen. He passed away this morning.”
Omowunmi pointed out that it was not the first time her late husband had suffered seizures. She revealed that he had an episode as recently as February.
The wife also dismissed insinuations of a spiritual attack as she insisted her husband’s death was ‘a pure medical issue’.
“The last time he had it was in February. I have never left him by himself because of this seizure. If I were cooking in the kitchen, I would have grabbed him when the seizure happened. To everyone saying it was a spiritual attack. It is a pure medical issue,” she clarified.

Trump, Biden, Macron and world leaders arrive in Rome for Pope Francis’ funeral (Photos)

World leaders, dignitaries, and thousands of mourners have started arriving at the St Peter’s Square to bid farewell to Pope Francis. US President Donald Trump, his predecessor Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and the Prince of Wales are among attendees at the requiem mass in St Peter’s Square, which begins at 9am UK. Others include French President Emmanuel Macron, former US President Joe Biden , and Irish President Michael D Higgins. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky, arrived on Saturday morning and will attend with his wife Olena Zelenska, following uncertainty over where he could attend after his travel plans were disrupted by air strikes in Kyiv.
About 500,000 people are expected to gather for the open-air service. Pope Francis, who died aged 88 on Monday, just hours after greeting crowds to mark Easter, had been lying in state in St Peter’s Basilica for three days, with some 250,000 mourners passing him day and night, before his coffin was formally sealed in private on Friday.
Nuns who gathered in St Peter’s Square ahead of the service told the Associated Press news agency that the late pontiff had been a ‘saintly man… a man of peace, who wanted peace for the whole world’.
Sister Nilma Navarro from the Philippines said that Francis was ‘the most humble person I have ever met,’ adding that he shepherded people ‘not only in the Catholic Church. He also embraced other religions.’
Miguel Vaca, a pilgrim from Peru, lined up from 7am to enter the square. ‘He was a very charismatic pope, very human, very kind,’ he said. The post Trump, Biden, Macron and world leaders arrive in Rome for Pope Francis’ funeral (Photos) appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
