Patoranking’s Sister and Her Husband Tragically Killed in Gas Explosion in Ebonyi, DSP Joshua Ukandu, spokesman of the Command in the state told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday that the incident occurred on August 25. Ukandu said that a preliminary investigation showed that the couple died from a gas explosion.

It happened on the waterworks axis in Abakaliki on August 25. The residents living around the scene called the attention of our personnel who visited the place but the couple has already been taken to hospital.

“It’s very unfortunate that both finally died. The wife, Chioma died sometime in August while the husband died this month, September.

“We gathered that the wife was a younger sister to the popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Patoranking.

“There are no much details because the victims could not survive to tell the story. So, what killed them was gas and not inverter explosion,” the police spokesman explained.

Also speaking with NAN one of the relatives who refused to mention his name described the incident as bad for the family.

“They were young couple. They had only a child, a three-year-old son.

“Please I have more to say. I cannot say more than this. They have gone,” the relative said.

‘I can also act’ – Davido discloses plan to delve into filmmaking this year

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hinted at his plan to pivot into filmmaking this year.

The Grammy-nominated singer revealed this while speaking to content creator Darryl.

Talking about his other passion, Davido said that if he weren’t a singer, he would still be in the entertainment space, but behind the scenes.

He explained that, “I studied business marketing, so I would have still been in the entertainment space [if I wasn’t singing] but probably, more of behind the scenes.”

On his acting ability, Davido declared, “I can also act. I can act for real.” He therefore served up his acting CV, saying, “I act in my music videos. I acted in music videos like ‘Jowo’, ‘Nwa Baby’.”

Speaking about his interest in filmmaking and pivoting into the space, Davido announced that “I am investing in a couple of films this year. Shoutout to my director, Dammy Twitch. We have some ideas, series coming.”

Davido also offered his assessment of the filmmaking space in Africa, saying, “The film space right now in Africa is going bankrupt. So, we are definitely going to tap into that.”

Recall that Davido released his highly anticipated fifth studio album titled ‘5ive’ on Friday to wide acclaim.

Ahead of the release, the award-winning singer had dropped several singles from the album, including ‘Be There Still’ and ‘Funds’, which features rapper Odumodublvck and Chike. He also unveiled ‘Awuke’, a collaboration with YG Marley.

BREAKING: Gospel singer Big Bolaji dies after brief illness

Nigerian gospel singer Bolaji Olarewaju, popularly known as Big Bolaji, has died after a brief illness, according to the family.

The singer, who is also an ordained Pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), one of Nigeria’s largest Christian congregations, was 50 years old at the time of his demise.

A statement released by the singer’s family confirming his demise revealed he died during the Easter weekend on Saturday.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju, affectionately known as “Big B,” a cherished father, husband, brother, and an esteemed figure in both the church community, an ordained Pastor in the RCCG and a giant in the music industry and our community.

“Bolaji left us on Easter Saturday, 19th April 2025, after a brief illness. His departure leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled,” the statement noted.

It further described the late gospel singer’s life as one that testified to his passion for music, his unwavering faith, and his dedication to uplifting those around him.

“His legacy is not only in the melodies he created but in the lives he touched and the unquantifiable joy he spread,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the family said it takes solace in knowing that the late singer’s demise “is his presence with the Lord, and the indelible mark he left on all who had the privilege of knowing him will not be erased.

“As we navigate through this time of loss, we kindly request privacy to mourn as a family. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received and ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers.”

According to the statement, details regarding the obsequies will be shared in due course, “as we come together to celebrate Bolaji’s remarkable life and legacy.
