The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Ojukwu, has appealed to the Federal Government to release the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu, who has been in the DSS custody since 2021, is being tried for alleged treason.

The wife of the late Odumegwu Ojukwu made the call in a speech at the 13th Memorial Anniversary of her husband held on Tuesday in Owerri.

It had “Unifying the Igbo Race” as its theme.

She advised the people of the South-East to look inwards and appraise the Igbo race that made them who they are.

The minister admonished them to be their brother’s keeper and love one another.

“In the olden days, we had Igbo unions in places like Kano, Lagos and Kaduna, among others, where people discussed matters affecting them and why they must unite.

“Today, we are celebrating Ojukwu, our uncommon man, a man who stood for peace and equality for every person,” she said.

She expressed dissatisfaction that the peaceful atmosphere, which Igboland was known for, no longer obtained in the region.

“There are so many killings, unrest and kidnappings going on today in the region, which is not how it used to be,” Ojukwu said.

She regretted that many people from the region could not go home again to bury their dead or give their children out to marriage due to the  spate of unrest and insecurity.

She urged the people perpetrating the evil acts to desist from it and embrace peace.

She pointed out that some of the perpetrators were from the region and urged them to allow peace to reign.

She condemned the act of killing people in the region “in the name of sit-at-home directive from non-state actors”.

She said that such was not what her husband stood for.

“Many people from the South-East have left the region for other cities like Lagos and other places, due to the spate of insecurity in the area.

“I was sad when an Igbo person in U. S. told me that they are making donations in America to buy burial ground to bury their dead relations as insecurity in the region doesn’t allow them to do that at home come home,” she fumed.

Ojukwu said that the release of Kanu would help to ensure total restoration of peace in Igboland.

According to her, if Kanu  is released, it will fasttrack development in the region.

In a speech, the organiser of the event, Chief Raph Uwazuruike, urged the Federal Government to release Kanu.

Uwazuruike, who is the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, opined that Kanu’s release would help the region to experience peace again.

He said that the memorial service was to commorate Ikemba’s legacies, adding that “all the good things he stood for will not be forgotten”.

The Guest Speaker at the event, Prof. Protus Uzorma, said that the late Igbo leader “solidified the Igboland and made it to be a peaceful place until his death”.

Uzorma called on all Igbo to unite, adding that with peace in the region development would be assured.

He described the evil currently happening in the region as a new phenomenon which was not part of the things the Igbo were known for.

He said that Igbo people were peaceful, loving, enterprising and assisting one another before the killings, unrest and kidnappings erupted in the region.

He urged those behind the ugly situation to stop forthwith in order for peace to reign.

Pastor Bolaji Idowu, the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), has been released from police custody following significant interventions from Aso Rock Villa and prominent clerics.

Idowu, under investigation for alleged fraud amounting to ₦1.5 billion, was held by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.

According to Sahara Reporters, Pastor Idowu was released late on Tuesday evening, December 3, after pressures mounted from powerful individuals, including presidential officials and influential religious leaders.

“Pastor Bolaji was released late into the evening after big pastors and President Tinubu’s Aso Villa intervened in the matter,” a senior police source disclosed.

The pastor was reportedly asked to repay the funds traced to his account within two weeks. The controversy stems from a real estate fraud scheme allegedly involving one of Idowu’s pastors.

Investigations revealed billions of naira linked to the scheme were traced from the church’s account to Idowu’s personal account.

Initially, police sources had indicated Idowu would spend the night in custody.

“The case emanated from one of his pastors who duped several people in a real estate scheme,” another insider revealed.

Pastor Idowu, known for his “Next Level Prayers” platform, has overseen HICC’s growth since its inception in 2003.

The church, with over 70,000 worshippers worldwide, operates in Nigeria, the UK, and the US.

While his release marks a reprieve, the financial allegations remain unresolved, and scrutiny persists.

The Oromoni family, already grappling with the loss of their son Sylvester Oromoni in 2021, has suffered another devastating blow with the passing of his mother, Rosemary Oromoni.

A family source disclosed that Rosemary succumbed to an illness linked to intermittent blood pressure complications in late November.

Her death follows years of emotional and legal turmoil for the family after the tragic death of Sylvester, a 12-year-old Dowen College student.

Sylvester’s death on November 30, 2021, captured national attention when his family alleged he was bullied and poisoned at the Lagos-based school.

Conflicting autopsy reports complicated the case, with initial findings pointing to chemical intoxication, while a subsequent autopsy attributed his death to natural causes linked to an ankle injury.

In April 2024, a coroner ruled that Sylvester’s death resulted from parental and medical negligence, exonerating Dowen College and its staff.

Five accused students—Favour Benjamin, Michael Kashamu, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, and Kenneth Inyang—were cleared of all charges and released from a juvenile home in 2022.

The Oromoni family’s ordeal has left a lasting mark on public consciousness, with Rosemary’s death adding a sombre chapter to their relentless fight for justice.

Operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) detained him in Abuja, where he is reportedly being interrogated.

A top police source confirmed the arrest, stating, “Pastor Bolaji Idowu, popularly known as the ‘Next-Level Prayer Conference’ pastor, is under investigation for alleged fraudulent real estate activities and money laundering.”

Another source added, “He is at the FCID Abuja as we speak.”

Pastor Idowu founded the church in December 2003. Over the years, HICC has grown significantly, establishing branches across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The church’s website boasts of attracting over 70,000 worshippers both online and onsite. Known for his “Next Level Prayers” platform, Pastor Idowu encourages participants worldwide to deepen their prayer lives.

The allegations, however, have cast a shadow over his ministry’s reputation. As the investigation unfolds, the case has sparked widespread curiosity and concern among the church’s large congregation and the general public.
