NCoS denies illegal detention of Patience Jonathanâs ex-aides

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Bayelsa State Command, has refuted reports alleging that former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, was involved in the illegal detention of 15 of her former domestic staff at the Okaka Custodial Centre. The command described the claims as false and an attempt to tarnish the image of the Service. The allegations, which surfaced recently, stated that the domestic workers had been in custody since 2019 over the alleged theft of valuables including seven gold bangles, jewellery, five Samsung air conditioners, two sets of upholstery chairs, and six Samsung flat-screen televisions reportedly valued at N200 million. They were also said to be facing 18 counts related to conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit felony, and burglary. In a statement released on Sunday, April 6, Isari Gbosi Tombara, spokesperson of the custodial centre, dismissed the allegations as unfounded and being spread to tarnish the good image of the Service. Tombara also addressed rumours of a closed-door meeting between the former first lady and senior officers of the NCoS in Bayelsa, asserting that no such meeting took place. The inmates have also been treated fairly and humanely while in custody, the statement said. Their fundamental human rights have been respected. Tombara confirmed that the detainees had appeared in court on March 10 and 11, and again on April 3, 2025, with the case adjourned to April 17, 2025. He stressed that all individuals held at the custodial centre were committed there legally. No one can be admitted into any custodial centre in Nigeria without a valid warrant from a competent court of jurisdiction. On this note, they are not in our custody illegally as they were all accompanied with valid remand warrants from the court, he said. The command also reassured the public that the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Okaka remains one of the most peaceful in the country. Hence, they should discountenance the said reports as they are intended to cause chaos where none exists. The NCoS further reiterated its commitment under the leadership of Acting Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to uphold the safe and humane custody of all lawfully detained persons, as well as ensure their effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society. The post NCoS denies illegal detention of Patience Jonathans ex-aides appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

A Sweden-based East African woman, Maureen Bahema, has advised married women to play the role of a humble maid to their husbands. Bahema who calls herself a submissive provider reminded women that many maids have used the spirit of humility to snatch their madam’s husbands. Be the QUEEN you want to be but when it comes to dealing with your husband, play the role of a humble maid. Fubara's gigantic billboard vandalised by Rivers youths

Some unidentified youths have destroyed a gigantic billboard bearing the face of the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The incident was caught on video in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Pulse reports that Nyesom Wike, Fubara’s political ally-turned-foe and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, hails from Obio/Akpor.
The viral video shows the moment youths numbering four tore down the billboard, which also bore the face of Fubara’s ardent supporter and former Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, Chijioke Ihunwo.

Though the exact location of the incident could not be immediately ascertained, the gigantic billboard overlooks the road.
“Even from the down, tear it from that side, it will come down. I will bring the new one,” one of the vandals said, while another voice greeted, “Honourable”, and they exchanged pleasantries.
In the three-minute video, a female voice can be heard as one of the youths climbs the billboard and keeps tearing off the material.
His accomplices followed suit and dragged out what looked like a piece of tick paper from the holder until the billboard was bare.
The incident might be related to the ongoing political impasse in the state following prolonged disagreements between Fubara and his estranged godfather, Wike.
Pulse reported that a protest broke out in the state on Friday, April 11, 2025, as a group of women passionately appealed to President Bola Tinubu to lift the suspension on Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu, and reinstate all democratic institutions in the state.
The demonstrators, bearing placards with bold inscriptions such as “Bring back Fubara,” “Save our democracy,” and “Is the law different for Rivers State?” among others, marched to the Rivers State Government House.

Masquerades lead protest against electricity tariff hike in Kwara

Two masquerades led a large crowd of youths in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a protest against what they described as an outrageous hike in electricity tariffs and the sudden reclassification of the communitys electricity supply from Band C to Band A. The protesters, armed with placards and chanting war songs, gathered at Bareke Roundabout before moving through major streets of the town. Placards bore messages such as Omu-Aran Says No to Band A, Bring Us Back to Band C, and Omu-Aran Youths Have Spoken Loudly, reflecting the communitys strong rejection of the new billing category. The demonstrators said the abrupt shift to Band A had resulted in a sharp spike in electricity bills for March 2025, with some residents reportedly charged between N41,000 and N47,000, compared to previous bills of N10,000 to N15,000. The youths expressed frustration that the change occurred despite unresolved challenges affecting electricity supply across various parts of the community. They alleged that several areas continued to suffer from erratic power and that some transformers remained faulty or completely inoperative. The group refused police escort and the presence of security agencies during the protest, which they insisted was peaceful. The demonstration extended to several key locations, including Olomu Market, Latinwo Market, the Olomu palace, and the district office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) located in the Omu-Aran City Complex. Protesters also blocked major roads connecting the town to other states, including the Omu-Aran-Kabba and Omu-Aran-Otun-Ekiti highways, leaving many motorists and travellers stranded for hours. In a statement signed by the President of the Omu-Aran Development Association, Niyi Adeyeye, the protesters outlined several demands, including an immediate return to the previous Band C billing classification, the suspension of Band A tariffs, and a review of the recent charges to reflect the communitys actual power consumption. The demands also included the replacement of faulty transformers, cessation of consumer-funded repairs of electricity infrastructure, and an independent review of IBEDCs service delivery in the area. The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, addressed the protesters at his palace, urging them to remain calm. He assured them that community leaders were in active discussions with IBEDC to resolve the matter and called on the youth to allow dialogue to take its course. The post Masquerades lead protest against electricity tariff hike in Kwara appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
