Minister Idris says Nigeria is winning fight against terror and banditry; During the opening ceremony of the News Agency of Nigeria’s (NAN) 1st Annual International Lecture held in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to eliminating the threats posed by Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and violent extremism. The lecture, themed “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges – Genesis, Impacts and Options,” emphasized the need for a strategic approach to tackling the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria and the wider Sahel region.

In his address, President Tinubu stated:
“Our target is to eliminate all the threats of Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and the scourge of all forms of violent extremism. Within one year, our government has eliminated Boko Haram and bandit commanders faster than ever. As of the last count, over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been eliminated by our gallant troops in the Northeast, Northwest, and some other parts of the country.”

This strong statement underscores the government’s resolve to intensify military efforts and intelligence operations in the fight against terrorism. The Minister at the event also pointed out the significant impact of insecurity in the Sahel, noting that it is a regional issue that no single country can handle alone. The Minister commended NAN for its role in news gathering and timely delivery, contributing to national unity and addressing pressing security issues.
