‘He is a world-class player’ – Ekong snubs Lookman, tips Boniface for CAF POTY award

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has placed Victor Boniface in the ‘World Class’ category and tips him for the CAF POTY award.

Boniface has had a good start to the new season with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring four goals and providing one assist in his last six games.

The striker played an important role in Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga triumph and also being unbeaten last season.

The forward is set to start for the Super Eagles against Libya as he replaces injured Victor Osimhen in the team.

Ekong on Boniface

Speaking eloquently about Bayer Leverkusen forward Boniface, Troost-Ekong was asked about his contribution to closing the gap between the team’s inexperienced and experienced players.

Boniface is a world-class attacker who is a serious contender for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award, according to Troost-Ekong, who showered accolades on him.

According to Allnigeriasoccer, Ekong said, “We have some players with a lot of caps now with the national team that have to help the guys. We spoke about Boniface before who is a world-class player in my opinion.

“Someone has also mentioned African Player of the Year for what he did for his club. Like anyone he has come here with us now, he has been a few times, and with players like that that have all the talent, they don’t need any help.

“On the pitch, we just try to to make them feel at home and we have that spirit now. Everyone who comes in, they feel free to express themselves, to be themselves and that’s when we see the best performances.

“That’s what we try to do as a group and it’s not only myself, there are some other players that have many caps so we are all working that together.”

Meanwhile, interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has backed Boniface to break Super Eagles’ goal drought against Libya.
