David De Gea was the hero for Fiorentina, pulling off two stunning penalty saves to deny Theo Hernandez and former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.
Christian Pulisic equalised for Milan on the hour mark, but Albert Gudmundsson restored Fiorentina’s advantage in the 73rd minute.
The drama continued as Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino was sent off for protesting in the dying minutes, and Milan’s Hernandez followed suit, receiving a red card in added time for dissent.
