The group urged US authorities to suspend Senator Buba’s entry visa, a move they say would limit any potential influence he might wield internationally.

A Nigerian civil society organisation, the Rural Community Development Outreach (RCDO), has called for an urgent probe into alleged terrorism ties of Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South.

In a letter addressed to the United States Consulate General, the group expressed concern over national security implications if the allegations prove true.

RCDO’s petition, signed by National Coordinator Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, alleges that Senator Buba may be linked to terrorism sponsorship, pointing to ongoing investigations by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS).

“We have witnessed the devastating impact of terrorism in Nigeria, particularly in the North East, for over seventeen years. If these allegations are true, they represent a betrayal of national trust,” the letter stated.

The petition details a recent DSS raid in Bauchi State where Abubakar Idris, a known terror suspect, was apprehended.

The arrest, according to RCDO, occurred shortly before Idris’s planned pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

As reported by Arise TV, the DSS investigation reportedly uncovered links between Senator Buba’s office and Idris’s travel plans, suggesting the Senator’s staff may have expedited Idris’s travel documentation.

“This revelation is particularly alarming because Senator Buba serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence,” RCDO noted, adding, “How can we trust our national security to someone whose alleged actions may be aiding those who threaten the survival of our country?”

Call for visa ban

The group urged US authorities to suspend Senator Buba’s entry visa, a move they say would limit any potential influence he might wield internationally.

RCDO argued this step would be a “precautionary measure to safeguard international security.”

The petition also criticised the government’s silence, claiming both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio are aware of the DSS inquiry.

RCDO demanded greater transparency and impartial handling of the investigation, stating that “accountability at the highest levels of governance is crucial if we are to reclaim peace in our country.”

The organisation closed with an appeal to the international community to support Nigeria’s anti-terrorism efforts, emphasising, “Our rural areas bear the heaviest burden of this unrelenting violence. We owe it to our citizens to stand firm against anyone who might be contributing to their suffering, directly or indirectly.”

A businesswoman has advised husbands to support their wives in having a career. She gave reasons why a woman who is busy building a career would not get into certain dangerous situations. She shared this amid awareness about religious houses that now target women and make them leave their families, give up their properties to the fellowship, and disappear. The busiensswoman wrote: “Even if you didn’t want your wife to work before, I implore you to allow her to chase a career. “It seems that when women work in a corporate environment, they have less time to jump around prayer houses. They engage in meaningful conversations, learn time management, and develop self-awareness, especially if they’re in a structured workplace. “But those who sell in the stores their husbands opened for them seem to have too much free time. It used to be gossip; now, they’re in every prayer challenge. Their heads contain nothing but ‘spirit, spirit, spirit’, even cockroaches in the house are seen as enemies. “Having that type of woman is a d@+h sentence. God forbid you have a seizure at home, she’ll grab a Bible instead of performing CPR! That kind of woman will silently take your property documents and sew a seed, and before you know it, the pastor has finished building on your plot. Women empowerment is now a must o! If you and me must drink water and drop cup. Screenshot 20250429 190726 Facebook 1745957469The post Businesswoman reveals why husbands must encourage their wives to have a career appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.

'Up NEPA' in Europe: Spain/Portugal's shock blackout shines dim light on Nigeria’s power struggles

Is Europe now as underdeveloped as its former colony of Africa? (Pun intended) What would ordinarily be passing news in Nigeria has become a major headline in tabloids across Spain and Portugal as massive blackouts leave millions stranded.

An unprecedented power outage on Monday brought Spain and Portugal to a near standstill, stranding thousands of commuters and cutting off millions from mobile networks, internet access, and cash withdrawals.

At exactly 12:33 p.m., Spain’s national grid lost 15 gigawatts of power—about 60% of its total demand—within five seconds, triggering a system-wide collapse described as “exceptional and extraordinary” by Red Eléctrica, the country’s main power distributor.

The blackout, which lasted over 11 hours, disrupted major transportation systems and sparked panic as people across the Iberian Peninsula scrambled for basic services.

Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, confirmed that more than 92% of power had been restored by early Tuesday morning, and assured citizens that full recovery would be completed by the end of the day.

Authorities, however, remain in the dark about the root cause of the failure, with the Prime Minister admitting that “all potential causes” were still under investigation.

This marks the second major infrastructure failure in Europe in under two months, following a March fire that shut down Heathrow Airport in the UK.

While speculation of sabotage has surfaced amidst rising geopolitical tensions with Russia, officials in both Spain and Portugal have so far ruled out cyberattacks.

European Commission vice president Teresa Ribera called it “one of the most serious episodes recorded in Europe in recent times,” underscoring growing vulnerabilities in the continent’s energy systems.

When the Lights Go Out: Europe’s Shock Compared to Nigeria’s Everyday Reality

The massive blackout that brought Spain and Portugal to a standstill this week revealed just how crucial steady electricity is to the smooth running of any country.

With offices shut, train services halted, and millions stranded without phone or internet access, both governments treated the outage as a national emergency.

Power was rushed in from Morocco and France, emergency meetings were held, and the military was deployed to distribute generators across the hardest-hit areas.

In Nigeria, power cuts are not breaking news. They are a way of life. Most people have come to rely on generators, power banks, inverters, and solar panels just to survive.

The impact runs deep. Businesses lose money daily, schoolchildren struggle to study, and hospitals are often left in the dark. Even the State House is reportedly considering solar power just to stay off the unreliable national grid. That is not innovation. It is survival.

To make matters worse, the new electricity band split has left many Nigerians paying more for a service that remains inconsistent

While Europe shuts down over a single day of power loss, Nigerians continue to endure it every day with little hope of real change. The cost of staying connected is rising, but the quality of supply remains painfully low.

So if one day, without power, Europe could be brought to its knees, what would it say about a country where darkness is business as usual?
