All isn't well with PDP, we've never had it this bad – Bode Georgeš„

All isn't well with – Chief Bode George, a…
Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peopleās Democratic Party (PDP), says all is not well with the former ruling party because of selfish interests. George, who made this remark at a news conference to commemorate his 79th birthday on Thursday in Lagos, said that PDP members and leaders must use the forthcoming National Convention to rescue the party. As a loyal party man who lives, thinks, talks, breathes and defends PDP, I have never left this party since it was formed; so today gives me a great opportunity to deliberate on the future of our party.Even as elders of the party are preparing to meet on Nov. 28 in Abuja to chart the way forward, I owe it a duty to declare openly that all is not well with our party. In fact, our party is derailing. This is unfortunate because the crisis in our party has further complicated the present tragedy in the socio-economic indices of our dear nation. āI am raising the alarm today that our party is at the precipice of a dangerous looming crisis if pending critical party issues are not urgently addressed,ā he said. George, a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), said that while the party leadership was trying its best to ensure all members had a sense of belonging, some ādesperadosā were doing everything possible to thwart their efforts.Calling for a united PDP, George said that the partyās founding fathers who had gone to the world beyond would be crying in their graves because the PDP has become āa shadow of itself due to selfish interests of some membersā.He described as disheartening and pitiable, a situation where some pretentious members, were already working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the build-up to the 2027 elections. They have one leg in PDP and another leg in APC. Such chameleonic characters are the ones trying to dictate the direction of this party. In the name of everything dear to our great party, this pretension must be stopped immediately by patriotic members of this party.Since the first elective convention of our party in 1999 when PDP was handed over to some of us as national officers, we have never had it this bad. āIf the PDP must rescue Nigerians from the vicious grip of APC in 2027, this must be a major agenda during our NEC meeting in Abuja,ā George said. Expressing the belief that the PDP was the only party that could save Nigeria, George said that the party must be ready to seize the opportunity to move the country forward.According to him, the party must not allow disloyal elements to continue to use the platform for their selfish interests, saying ādisloyalty is a very grave offenceā. He added: āUnless we are united, with equity, fairness and justice being the pedestal for any political decision taken, this party will be heading to disaster in 2027. If we want to win the 2027 presidential election, we should not allow ourselves to be divided and those with divisive tendencies should be told in clear language that āEnough is Enoughā.We must change the narratives now so that we donāt embark on a suicide mission, a self-destructive journey for our party in 2027.With the suffering in the land and the mismanagement of the economy, Nigerians are waiting for us in 2027 to kick APC out of Aso Rock. He urged the party members and leaders from the North to the South to use the forthcoming PDPās 99th National Executive Committee meeting as a golden opportunity before the next general elections in 2027, āto bury our differences and put on our thinking caps.āAccording to him, the party should do everything humanly possible to ensure that the PDP does not go into the dustbin of history in 2027. On the political crisis in Rivers and the feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, the PDP leaders urged Wike to ācool off immediatelyā.Urging party leaders not to treat Fubara like an outcast, George called on all party leaders to rise in defence of the general interest of the party and sanity. We should not allow the collective unity of this party to be fragmented. How we collectively address the issues at stake will be a major determinant of the fate of this party in months and years to come.We are determined to ensure that the PDP returns to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on May 29, 2027, but, we can only go back to Aso Rock if we are united, not divided. He urged party elders such as Bamanga Tukur, Jim Nwobodo, Ahmadu Ali, Prof. Jerry Gana, Jonah Jang, Peter Odili, James Ibori, former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo to rise to the challenges. The PDP chieftain also urged Victor Attah, Donald Duke, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Ibrahim Shema, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Saka Balogun, Ebenezer Babatope, Bello Haliru, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, Ahmed Makarfi and others not to keep quiet.George called on the Chairman of the PDP BoT to invite all the aforementioned elders for a meeting on the way forward before the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. We cannot afford to fail and disappoint our founding fathers. Let me state categorically that, Nigerians are waiting for us in 2027 but we must put our house in order. As leaders, we must not allow anybody to destroy our party because PDP is the only true national party. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by some PDP chieftains and members in the state including the 2023 Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

ADC stakeholders warn against imposition ahead of 2027 polls

Stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition in Kaduna State have issued a passionate call for protection from intolerance and political manipulation, urging the partyās national leadership under Senator David Mark to safeguard internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
At a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, July 14, coalition leaders comprising members from the APC, PDP, LP, and the ADC declared their commitment to creating a political environment defined by inclusion and democratic values.
Key ADC leaders at the event included Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, Mr Patrick Didam, and Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman. They were supported by prominent political figures such as Senator Nenadi Usman, the Labour Partyās National Chairman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, who all endorsed the statement through their representatives.
āAs stakeholders in Kaduna State, we appeal to the national leadership for protection to avoid another political disappointment. We reject lawlessness, imposition, and discrimination,ā they said in a joint statement.
Godfather Politics Rejected and Push for New Political Culture
The forum warned that any attempt to reduce the ADC into a godfather-driven structure would derail efforts to build a credible alternative.
āThe Coalition and ADC must not operate in a mode where one leader monopolises decision-making, imposes delegates, or handpicks candidates,ā the statement read.
They stressed the importance of allowing the majority opinion to shape party decisions, encouraging openness and freedom of expression in internal debates.
Emphasising the need for a change in political culture, the stakeholders urged aspiring members across Kadunaās 23 LGAs to register when the party opens its books.
āOur vision is to build a political platform based on equal opportunity, mutual respect, and unity,ā they added.

Atiku-Obi merger canāt stop Tinubu in 2027 – Presidency

The Presidency has dismissed recent speculation about a potential coalition between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Partyās Peter Obi, declaring the move to be no threat to President Bola Tinubuās chances of re-election in 2027.
Speaking during a live interview on Arise Televisionās Prime Time on Thursday, July 10, President Tinubuās Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, downplayed the reported merger talks between the two opposition leaders.
He insisted that even if the pair joined forces, they still would not be able to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
āThey are jumping the gun. Itās not yet time for politicking as they are doing,ā Onanuga said, warning that the current discussions are premature.
Onanuga drew a comparison between the present situation and the APCās own formation over a decade ago, stating that the coalition that gave birth to the ruling party in 2013 was much more deliberate and strategic than what the opposition is now attempting.
āThe alliance or merger we had in 2013 was not like these people are making it look. It didnāt give much distraction to the government in power.
āBut the way they are doing it now is as if INEC has blown the whistle for party politics to start ā but itās not so,ā he explained.
āTheyāre No Match for Tinubuā
While acknowledging the constitutional right of opposition figures to form alliances, he remained adamant that any Atiku-Obi merger would be inconsequential at the polls.
āThis is a free country, and people can come together to form all kinds of alliances.

āBut as far as the APC is concerned, we are not seeing the coalition as any threat,ā Onanuga said.
He further declared: āEven if you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, there is no way the two of them can beat a Bola Tinubu and Shettima ticket; it is not going to be possible.ā
The remarks come amid increasing speculation about opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as both Atiku and Obi remain vocal critics of the Tinubu administration and have not ruled out another run for the presidency.
Though neither Atiku nor Obi has officially confirmed a joint ticket, political observers believe the idea is gaining traction among opposition supporters seeking to unseat the APC.
However, with the ruling party signalling confidence and dismissing their efforts as premature, the stage appears set for a contentious build-up to 2027.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on lawmakers to take bold steps towards reserving special seats for women in Parliament, saying it would help deepen democracy and promote national development.
Speaking through Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Chair of the House Committee on Women Affairs, at the 2025 NASS Open Week in Abuja, Mrs Tinubu lamented the persistent underrepresentation of women in governance despite women comprising nearly half of Nigeriaās population.
āThis is not just a question of fairness; it is a matter of strengthening our democracy,ā the First Lady said, while opening the session on Special Seats for Women in Parliament.
āGiving women a seat at the table is not about charity. It is about recognising competence, diversity of experience, and the unique perspectives women bring to leadership.ā
She urged lawmakers to seize the opportunity of the ongoing constitutional review to legally reserve parliamentary seats for women, commending the 10th National Assembly for fostering public engagement.
āLet us make history by enshrining representation that reflects the strength and diversity of Nigeria,ā she added.
Mrs. Tinubu praised civil society groups, womenās organisations, and male allies who advocate for inclusive governance.
She also pledged her continued support for womenās political empowerment, education, and economic inclusion.
The event was part of the NASS Open Week, also known as OPEN NASSāan initiative designed to bridge the gap between parliament and citizens by promoting transparency and public participation in the legislative process.
