Mohbad’s Widow Agrees to DNA Test Amid Family Dispute Over Paternity. Omowunmi, widow of the late Nigerian singer and rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has agreed to undergo a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their son, Liam. This comes after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed a legal request for a DNA test on his grandson.
According to court documents, Joseph Aloba’s legal team filed for an order to serve Omowunmi at her last known address after initial attempts to contact her failed. During a court session on July 9, 2024, in Lagos’ Ikorodu Magistrates Court, both parties were advised to pursue alternative dispute resolution measures. However, these discussions were unsuccessful.
In a recent statement obtained by PUNCH Metro, Monisola Odumosu, a representative of Joseph Aloba’s legal team, confirmed that Omowunmi agreed to the DNA test under settlement terms negotiated by both parties. According to the agreement, the DNA test will be conducted at a recognized and accredited government or private facility within Lagos State or, if necessary, at a mutually agreeable facility outside the state. The cost of the DNA test, including sample collection and associated fees, will be covered by Mohbad’s father, Joseph.

The court further ordered that the DNA test be conducted in a mutually agreed-upon laboratory, with appointed officers supervising the process to ensure its reliability. Both parties were instructed to cover their own legal costs related to the case, with the exception of the DNA processing costs borne by the applicant.
Mohbad passed away at 27 under controversial circumstances, which have since spurred an ongoing investigation. The Lagos State Police Command established a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to examine the circumstances surrounding his death. Naira Marley, the head of Mohbad’s former record label, Marlian Music, and Lagos socialite Sam Larry were among those arrested as part of the investigation.
Following Mohbad’s exhumation for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, international observers raised concerns about the fairness of the inquest, citing frequent delays and potential suppression of evidence. The observers, monitoring proceedings at the Ikorodu court, expressed dissatisfaction over the repeated adjournments and alleged interference during Omowunmi Adebanjo’s cross-examination, which, they argue, hindered the collection of essential information.
The case remains a topic of significant public and legal interest, with all parties advocating for a resolution that ensures transparency and justice for Mohbad.
