Gov Bala takes legal action to convene PDP NEC meeting amid tensions

Political analysts suggest that this lawsuit may exacerbate the existing schisms within the PDP, further complicating its internal politics.
Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed has filed a suit in the Zamfara High Court seeking an ex parte order to convene the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
This action comes despite an existing injunction from the Federal High Court in Abuja that prohibits the removal of the party’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagum.
Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, aims to circumvent the federal court’s restrictions, highlighting the party’s growing internal divisions.
The governor’s legal manoeuvre signals a strategic effort to assert his influence over the party’s leadership at a time when the PDP faces significant challenges.
The ongoing rift within the party is becoming increasingly apparent, with factions emerging as members voice their discontent over the current leadership dynamics.
Political analysts suggest that this lawsuit may exacerbate the existing schisms within the PDP, further complicating its internal politics.
As the party grapples with its direction, the outcome of this legal battle could have far-reaching implications for its cohesion and electoral prospects.
Governor Mohammed’s actions come at a pivotal moment for the PDP, which is seeking to solidify its leadership in preparation for future elections.
As the legal proceedings unfold, all eyes will be on the court’s decision, which could either pave the way for a crucial NEC meeting or deepen the existing divides within the PDP.

Don’t lose sleep – El-Rufai taunts opponents over Visit to Buhari

Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has responded to growing speculation surrounding his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna, urging critics and political adversaries not to lose sleep over what he described as a simple act of brotherhood and faith.
The high-profile visit, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other notable political figures, occurred at Buhari’s residence in Kaduna.
It has since stirred conversation across political circles, with some observers interpreting it as an early sign of a potential political realignment or coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, El-Rufai has firmly dismissed any political undertones linked to the meeting. In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, the former governor downplayed the significance of the gathering, stating it had nothing to do with politics.

“We joined other faithful for Jumaat prayers at the Yahaya Road Mosque and had a sumptuous lunch at the Buhari residence,” El-Rufai wrote, describing the atmosphere as one rooted in spirituality and camaraderie.
Now a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after his recent defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), El-Rufai poked fun at the speculations, saying, “By the way, our adversaries should not lose any sleep. It is not about politics. It is about unity and brotherhood. And since we are all politically irrelevant, we just prayed and enjoyed lunch with our mentor.”
The former governor maintains that the gathering was purely social and not a signal of any political plot as connoted by political analysts.

BREAKING: Atiku, El-Rufai, Tambuwal visit Buhari amid coalition talks to unseat Tinubu

In a surprising political development, former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, met with former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Friday, April 11, alongside former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
The high-profile meeting was revealed by El-Rufai’s close ally, Imran Wakili, who posted on X: “Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, together with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and other dignitaries, visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence. El-Rufai’s endless respect for Buhari is priceless, even with the best effort of Garba Shehu.”

Although details of their private discussion remain undisclosed, the visit comes amid intensifying political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, El-Rufai, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi recently formed a coalition aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The coalition was announced at a press briefing organised by a group known as Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria.

At the event, Atiku stated, “We’re building a broad platform to rescue Nigeria,” signaling a new political alignment.
Meanwhile, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo disclosed that discussions were potentially ongoing for Atiku and Obi to join the SDP.
“If they can embrace our party’s ideology, we can defeat and retire Tinubu and the APC,” Adebayo declared.
Adding to the intrigue, NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima claimed El-Rufai could serve as Atiku’s placeholder in the SDP, should the PDP deny him its ticket.
As alliances shift and new power blocs form, the road to 2027 is already heating up.

New AI tools to enable Nigerians, other Africans to monitor legislation, influence policy

A powerful new digital platform is promising to reshape how Africans interact with their governments.
Legis360, a civic tech innovation powered by artificial intelligence and data science, enables citizens across the continent to track legislation in real time and actively engage with policy-making.
Launched to foster transparency and accountability, Legis360 gives users open access to bills, motions, petitions, and committee activities—information that has historically been difficult to obtain.
“Our mission is to bridge the gap between the governed and those who govern,” said Samuel Folorunsho, Project Lead for Legis360.

“Legis360 empowers citizens, journalists, and advocacy groups to participate meaningfully in shaping policies.”
The platform features a suite of tools designed to make governance more accessible. These include AI-powered bill analysis, live committee monitoring, direct communication channels with lawmakers, and a comprehensive archive of legislative records. It also allows users to search and filter data with ease.
“In many parts of Africa, governance is still a closed-door affair,” Folorunsho noted. “We are opening those doors, using technology to democratise access and ensure that citizens can hold institutions accountable.”

Legis360 caters to a broad audience, from everyday citizens and activists to journalists and legislators.

“We’ve built this tool not just for transparency but for impact,” Folorunsho added. “Whether you’re a policy researcher, an NGO, or a concerned citizen, Legis360 is your window into the legislative heartbeat of your country.”
As Legis360 approaches its official launch, stakeholders are invited to test its features and offer feedback, signaling the start of what its creators hope will become a continent-wide movement for participatory governance.
