NCF Pledges Commitment to Elevating Women’s Cricket: Time to Test the Depth of Development, The president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) Uyi Akpata, has reaffirmed the commitment to women’s cricket development, building on recent successes at both junior and senior levels.
The NCF aims to create a formidable female national team for the country as the Nigeria-Ghana U-19 Women Series, a maiden age-grade international tournament featuring Nigeria, Ghana, the Southwest female team, and a selected national women’s team.
The event serves as preparation for the ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup Africa Division One Qualifiers in Kigali.
Akpata emphasised the strategic importance of gender equality in the NCF’s developmental efforts.
“Apart from getting the women’s U-19 team in shape for the Division One World Cup Qualifier starting September 22 in Kigali, this event allows us to test the depth of our women’s development.
Vincent Adewoye stood out as Nigeria shocked Kenya by 3 wickets to claim their first win in the Kenya-Nigeria Bilateral Series.
“Development is an ongoing process; carefully curating the process that produces and hones our players’ skills is key for us,” he said.
The senior female national team secured a bronze medal at the African Games in Accra, while the federation has also established a women’s cricket league in the South-South region and implemented school outreach programs focused on girls.

Akpata expressed optimism about the future of women’s cricket in Nigeria, highlighting the positive impact of these initiatives. “The impact is beginning to resonate for the country already,” he added.
