“Funke Akindele paid me just ₦90k after one month on set” – Actor Ijoba Lande speaks out

Nollywood actor and content creator Ijoba Lande has revealed that he got paid ₦90,000 for a month on a set with actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele.

Lande has stirred conversation in the Nigerian entertainment industry following a candid revelation about his experience working with one of Nollywood’s most influential figures, Funke Akindele.

In a recent disclosure that has since gone viral on social media, Lande recounted how he worked on a film project under Akindele’s production for an entire month, only to be paid what he described as a disappointing amount.

“There was a time Funke Akindele called me for a movie production at Amen Estate, and we spent one month there. I was shocked when she gave me 90,000 after spending one month,” he lamented.

The skit maker, known for his comic online videos and growing popularity in the Yoruba film scene, shared his story as both a warning and a learning moment for upcoming actors.

Lande emphasised that while the allure of working with a top-tier filmmaker like Funke Akindele is undeniable, it should not come at the expense of one’s self-worth or professional standards.

“I have learnt my lessons. I will always state my charges before going to any location. When she called me, I was too excited to discuss payment, only to end up with N90k after one month,” he added.

Industry shockwaves

The actor’s admission has triggered mixed reactions online, with many expressing disappointment, while others have questioned the context behind the payment.

Some commenters suggested that Lande’s lack of initial negotiation contributed to the outcome, while others criticised what they see as a broader issue of underpayment in Nollywood, especially for up-and-coming talents.

“This is not about Aunty Funke or anyone, this is about Business. It’s about knowing your worth and negotiating your pay before accepting a job. Even Dangote or Elon musk will pay u chicken change if u did not negotiate with them. It’s business! Not charity!”

An upset user, Bukkyonradio responded: “Yes but this means you lack integrity if you’re waiting on someone to price themselves better before you offer them better.”

Another user stated: “I like Funke but have been hearing a lot of negative about how she treat her staff members Omo e bad but na allegedly.”

The Reality of Nollywood’s pay scale

Lande’s story sheds light on a recurring issue within the Nigerian film industry: payment transparency and fair compensation.

Nollywood, despite being one of the largest film industries globally by output, still struggles with standardising rates for actors, especially newer or less established ones.

While A-list actors and actresses command substantial fees, many supporting actors, extras, and crew members often work under vague verbal agreements or out of sheer passion and hope for future opportunities.

Ijoba Lande’s confession underscores the risks of going into any project without a clear financial agreement, regardless of the production’s profile.

ICYMI: Tacha slams Ayra Starr, Tems, Burna Boy’s looks at the Met Gala

Reality TV star and influencer Tacha Akide has sparked conversation online after sharing her unfiltered thoughts on the red carpet appearances of Nigerian celebrities at the 2025 Met Gala.

In a social media post that has since gone viral, Tacha expressed her disappointment with the looks served by Tems, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy, all of whom made history as part of the first wave of Afrobeats stars to grace fashion’s biggest night.

I think someone had to say it. So the Nigerians at the Met Gala did not represent and this is coming from a place of love. You know I love Ayra Starr and Tems, and I’m crazy about Burna Boy but trust me, they didn’t represent at all.

She broke down the fashion looks of the celebs, starting with Tems, whose outfit she claimed to not understand.

Girl I get that the outfit was Oswald Boteng but it’s very clear that you weren’t their first choice because I’m not even understanding this outfit at all. Haven’t you heard of veekee James or Swanky Jerry? They would have brought the moon down for your outfit with pure creativity.

Next, she highlighted Ayra Starr’s outfit, stressing that it looked rushed and not completely thought through.

Now to Ayra Starr, you’re our future of Afrobeats our gen Z baddie. You cannot be wearing that to the met gala, it’s giving last minute or you weren’t informed. Do you know what veekee James. The look is giving Mary Amaka, please don’t do it again. If these designers don’t want you as their first choice please come home .

Burna boy you always kill the red carpet, what happened? You never miss but this time you did. You know we love you but next time let come correct.

She concluded by saying, “Let’s not even lie even Priscilla’s wedding served us better looks. One thing Nigerians are known for is music and also fashion sense. I love my people but someone had to say it.”

As would be expected, Tacha’s video sparked reactions and equal outrage, with mant taking the opportunity to educta her about how the Met Gala actually works.

See some reactions below:

You’re only skilled at video editing; beyond that, there’s nothing in your head!

Aunty Tacha….the designers buy tables then invite celebs and dress them to showcase their designs. You for dey ask questions before you whip out camera. 🤦‍♂️

As if veekee James and the other Nigerians you mentioned have $75,000 to purchase a ticket to showcase their works. girl just critique their outfit and go, stop giving advice on what/who they should wear cos you’re clueless on how the METGALA works.

The reason most celebs wear outfits by certain designers is cause these designers pay for their ticket. It’s $75,000 per ticket. Will Vicki James pay that for Ayra Star?
