Since February 2025, Spotify has been deducting screams from different artists.

In another round of deductions in early April, several Nigerian stars have seen stream subtracted from some of their songs.

While Spotify hasn’t provided an explanation for the stream subtractions, the global streaming platforms have a policy of removing streams that are deemed fraudulent.

As provided in the company’s policy, artists are not allowed to use third party services that offers streams in return for money.

“Paid 3rd-party services that guarantee streams aren’t legitimate.

3rd-party promotional services that advertise streams in return for payment violate our terms & conditions, and using them could result in your music being removed from Spotify.

Any service that claims to offer guaranteed placement on playlists on Spotify in exchange for money are in violation of our terms & conditions, and they shouldn’t be used.”

The policy further prescribes the correction of public sreaming numbers, removal from playlists, and some cases takedowns and withoding royalties as consequences for fraudulent.

“When we identify confirmed cases of artificial streaming or stream manipulation, we take actions that may include the withholding of associated royalties, the correction of public streaming numbers, and measures to ensure the artist or song’s popularity is accurately reflected in our charts.

Depending on the severity of the artificial streaming detected, the song may also be removed from Spotify playlists.”

Streaming manipulation is an issue that continues to confront music streaming globally, especially in Nigeria.

In 2024, Drake accused Universal Music of using bot streams to inflate the popularity of Kendrick Lamar‘s hit song ‘Not Like Us.’

Digital streaming platforms continue to restate their zero tolerance for fraudulent streams, which they describe as a way of gaining undue advantage and cheating other artists out of their due revenues.

Iyabo Ojo speaks out after EFCC invitation over naira spraying at daughter’s wedding

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that she was recently invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the spraying of currency at her daughter’s wedding.

The actress took to Instagram on May 6, 2025, to clarify what transpired while she was in EFCC’s custody on May 5, 2025

Good afternoon, lovely people. Following the recent media publication on social media and numerous calls and text messages from different quarters seeking to hear from me on the EFCC invitation and to ascertain my welfare, I find it expedient to release this briefing.

I recently had an experience with the EFCC in Nigeria after receiving an invitation letter while I was in the UK. Upon my return, I visited the EFCC on the 5th day of May 2025, where I was asked several questions relating to my personal bio data, career, work experience, and companies, amongst others.

Iyabo Ojo recalled how she was shown evidence of guests at Priscilla’s wedding spraying money, which they explained was a crime no matter what currency was sprayed.

She wrote, “The EFCC officials showed me videos extracted from my daughter’s wedding where guests, including colleagues and friends, were spraying the naira and foreign currencies.”

I was asked if I knew this was illegal, and I explained that I thought only abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offense. The EFCC officials clarified that spraying money, including on people’s bodies, is prohibited. I was surprised to learn that spraying any currency, including Dollars, is also not allowed.

After questioning, I was allowed to leave the same day, but my personal lawyer, O.I. Salami stood in for me as I may be called upon again.

The actress used the opportunity to warn others, urging Nigerians to rethink the long-standing tradition.

Given this experience, I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria to avoid issues with the EFCC. Perhaps it’s time to reconsider this long-standing tradition. Let’s prioritize caution and avoid any potential problems.

Her post immediately sparked discussions about money spraying and whether the tradition ought to be scrapped or not.

Reality TV star and actress Alex Unusual has taken to social media to question the Lagos State Government’s recent crackdown on homeless individuals, expressing concern and confusion over the motive behind the arrests.

In a post posted on her Instagram story on May 6, 2025, the former Big Brother Naija housemate asked for clarification after reports surfaced of homeless people being rounded up, harassed, and detained without explanation or due process.

Can someone please educate me on/ explain to me why Lagos State is arresting homeless people? I’m confused, so before it saddens me or ruins my day, I need to understand.

Clearly distraught, Alex said the situation had already affected her mood for the day, pointing out the unfairness of targeting those without shelter.

In fact, it has already ruined my day. What is the crime? Not having a house?
